The Story of Hammer & Stain
Hammer & Stain began with a simple idea in 2014: creating a welcoming space for people to gather, craft, and connect. At the time, we were running a small storefront called The Cottage Dresser, in Williston Florida where we first introduced crafting events. The classes quickly became a hit, showing us the power of creativity to bring people together.
Inspired by that response, we decided to expand. We opened two additional locations, this time focusing solely on crafting experiences. In January 2016, we officially rebranded as Hammer & Stain — a name that reflected our commitment to hands-on creativity, modern DIY design, and the joy of making.
Not long after, others began to notice what we had built and asked about franchising. After consulting with attorneys, we realized a licensing model better fit our vision. Unlike a franchise, our license allows owners to maintain full control over how they operate their business, while still benefiting from the strength, creativity, and community of the Hammer & Stain brand.
Nearly a decade later, what started as one small storefront in small rural Levy County, Florida has now grown into a thriving network of over 150 licensees across the country. Each one brings the Hammer & Stain experience to their community in a way that is uniquely their own, yet still part of something bigger — a movement that celebrates creativity, connection, and the joy of making something with your own hands.
Hammer & Stain is no longer just about workshops — it has become a fun, Social DIY experience that empowers people to create memories, not just projects.
We cannot thank you all enough for the continued support.
